I had an accident with the car
Have you ever had to fill out an accident friendly report? Perhaps yes because last year there were no more and no less than 1.7 million minor accidents in our country.

Hopefully it will never happen to you, but just in case, today we are going to summarize the keys to fill in the accident-friendly part and process the claim without problems or delays.

3 basic keys on the accident-friendly side

Refreshing some basic concepts about the accident-friendly part will help us not only to fill out all the documentation faster and better, but to avoid those errors that cause 25% of claims not to be resolved in the way that we would all want, that is to say : receiving compensation.

The most important details that we have to know about the accident friendly report, Accident Friendly Declaration or DAA would be the following:

  1. The accident-friendly report is only valid when two or more vehicles are involved.
  2. All insurance companies use the same model to make and receive the European Accident Declaration.
  3. The document of the accident-friendly report is self-marking, that means that only by filling in one we will obtain two identical copies one for each driver. Make sure to fill each and every one of the boxes in the model with capital letters.

The friendly part of step-by-step accidents

The experts in accident management at Zurich Insurance offer the following basic tips to quickly and well fill out the accident-friendly part:

  1. Keep calm. It's raining, you're in a hurry, you've got a good scare and the driver of the car with which you collided does not stop yelling at you. Is it easy to stay calm in this situation? No, it is not. Our advice? If you see that the situation gets out of hand, get in your car and contact the police.
  2. Find witnesses. Before leaving the scene of the accident, talk to the witnesses and convince them to give you their phone number. Having those contacts on hand can help you especially if you disagree with the other driver.
  3. Take your time and take care of the details. The accident-friendly part is very simple to fill out, but you have to be very rigorous with the details, remember that any forgetfulness or omission can slow down or cancel the raccident claim. Pay special attention to the points that we detail below.

More important information

  • It is important to write down when and where the accident happened, so start filling in the part clearly noting the date, time and place of the accident.
  • The boxes 3 and 4 on the part they serve to reflect that in the accident there have been victims and if there have been damages in the urban furniture; check these boxes even if the wounded are slight and the material damage is practically imperceptible.
  • To complete the accident-friendly report, one of the vehicles is called "A" and the other "B". RRemember which letter corresponds to each vehicle and do not mix the data. Also, ask the driver to show you the vehicle papers and check that these data (registration, etc.,) are identical to what is written on the part. You can not imagine the number of claims lost due to this type of details ...
  • Write down the details of the drivers involved in the accident. If the driver of the other vehicle is a foreigner, ask him for the Green Card or, if he does not have one, the International Certificate of Insurance. Remember that if the data of the drivers are not recorded, it is understood that they are the same as those that appear in the insurance policies and this will be stated in the Driver Claims File.
  • In the box number 10 three drawings appear, one of a truck, another of a car and a third of a motorcycle; mark with a cross the points where your vehicle has been damaged in the accident. In the next section called “Appreciated Damage” you will be able to describe in detail the extent of these flaws.
  • In the next box called "Observations" write down any details of the accident that you think is important, for example "the driver of vehicle B did not keep the safety distance", "the driver of vehicle B did not signal the maneuver he was going to do", etc.
  • In section 12 “Circumstances” most of the situations that usually occur in this type of accident appear, such as “Turning to the right”, “Reversing”, etc. You can check one or more boxes or even not check any if it does not fit your specific case. Remember to write down the number of options you have chosen (0, 1, 2, ...).
  • In the next section "Sketch" schematically draw the accident including arrows indicating the direction in which the vehicles involved traveled.
  • Check all the sections well before signing the part, remember that once signed you will no longer be able to change, add or delete anything.
